Application for Letter of No Objection

Requirements for the issuance of a Letter of No Objection:

A written request signed by the applicant and addressed to the Consulate General of Jamaica, 44 West Flagler Street, Suite 400, Miami, FL 33130. The letter must include the reason(s) for the request and state the applicant’s Case Number.
The Third-Party Barcode Page.
A copy of the applicant’s Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV);
A notarized copy of the bio-data page of the applicant’s Jamaican passport.
A notarized copy of the applicant’s Birth Certificate.
A notarized copy (copied back & front) of the applicant’s Jamaican Taxpayer Registration Card (TRN Card) or Jamaican driver’s license.
A notarized copy of the applicant’s Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status.
Notarized copies of the applicant’s US-J1 Visa.
Notarized copy of I-94 Record.

Effectively immediately, applications without the mandatory consular fee of $20.00 will not be processed,
(please prepare local/international money order payable to the Consulate-General of Jamaica, Miami - $20.00 USD).
To avoid undue delays, it is advisable that the International Money Order payable to the Accountant General’s Department ($50.00 USD) are utilized from Western Union, MoneyGram or AMSCOT.

Based on the forgoing, all applications must include 2 money orders:
Consulate General of Jamaica, Miami - $20.00 USD (local or international)
Accountant General’s Department - $50.00 USD (international)


Processing Time:
Estimated processing time 120 business days.

Steps in the Process
The applicant applies for a change of his/her J-1 Visa status at the US Department of State website www.travel.state.gov.
The applicant’s cover letter, supporting documents and fee are sent to the Consulate General of Jamaica, Miami.
The application is checked and if found compliant, it is forwarded to the Scholarship and Assistance Unit, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Jamaica for processing.
If the application is non-compliant, the applicant is advised in writing of the necessary actions to be taken.
The Ministry of Finance - Scholarship and Assistance Unit, sends a list of applicants to whom the Government of Jamaica (GoJ) has offered No Objection to the waiver of their J-1 Visa.
In this regard, a letter is then prepared by the Consulate, transmitted to the Embassy of Jamaica, DC and copied to the applicant.
Within 5 – 7 days, the Jamaican Embassy in DC will transmit to the United States State Department, advising of the GoJ’s No Objection.
The State Department will further upload this information to the US State Department’s website for the applicant’s attention.

The applicant will be given a case number, which is to be stated in the request to the Consulate together with the Third-Party Barcode Page as part of the application for the Waiver.
